The City of Athens Development Agency S.A. (AEDA) was founded in September of 1996 and is involved in developing activities, initiatives, and providing services, which are aimed at upgrading the quality of life and the sustainable urban development of Athens.

The major shareholder of the Societe Anonyme is the City of Athens, while minor shareholders are the Local Union of Municipalities and Communities of Attica (T.E.D.K.N.A), Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), National and Capodistrian University of Athens, National Technical University of Athens and the City of Athens Insurance Agency.

The goal of AEDA S.A. is in searching and applying innovative approaches in urban planning and managing issues, as well as submitting proposals for policies that will contribute to the economic development and social cohesion of the cities and the citizens, of Athens and the rest of Greece, as well as cities abroad.

The key areas of interest and action are urban development in the wider sense, social policy, environmental issues, culture and innovative cutting-edge technologies. More specifically, AEDA S.A. during its 12-year operation has achieved a continuous and steady development rate through a wide range of scientific activities and initiatives, such as European and National Programmes, studies and the organization of international events. Moreover, it is expanding its activities abroad, with its active participation in programmes involving authorities from more than one country, giving special emphasis on the Balkan region and South-East Europe.
